ladies do it again!

Gnome Place Like Home.

Despite a downpour, Castlewood members, guests and volunteers arrived with big smiles (and raingear) in support of CWGC’s annual Charity Event benefiting Tri-Valley REACH.  For over 20 years, CWGC has been holding a charity tournament in support of a local non-profit and year after year sponsors, guests, and members are overwhelmingly generous. 

This year’s beneficiary was Tri-Valley REACH, a local non-profit whose mission for over 30 years has been providing affordable housing and creating inclusive communities for adults with an intellectual or developmental disability so that they may live independently.  CWGC will be presenting a check to Tri-Valley REACH for over $15,000!

This year’s theme was “Gnome Place Like Home” and gnomes were everywhere!  Gnome cookies, Gnome Putting Contest into a Gnome Mushroom Home, Gnome golf balls, Gnome ball markers, Gnome golf towels, etc.  You “gnome it”, it was there!

Special guest, Danny van Looy, REACH tenant, joined the group for lunch and when asked what he liked about living in a REACH home, Danny van Looy said, “I like learning things, I like living with friends, I like being independent and I like parties!”  Not a surprising comment coming from a 29-year-old!

Patty van Looy, Danny’s mother, shared a few words as well, “Having a special needs child brings uncertainty about the future. What will your child be capable of, what challenges will he/she face, what will happen to them when we get old?”  Patty also talked about Danny venturing out into the world on his own and the challenge of letting go as parents.  Patty concluded with, “all REACH tenants are very special people, and that this small, underserved community is so worthy of the friends of REACH’s generous donations and how it was allowing our tenants and families to live their best lives with independence in their own community.”
